The process to fill over 140 vacant posts at Helen Joseph Hospital (HJH) is at an advanced stage and should be completed before the year end.

The recruitment process is at various stages, with most of the posts already advertised, while some are at the interview and screening stages.

Gauteng Health Spokesperson Kwara Kekana said the process, which started in June, will see various categories of workers including nurses, data capturers, food service staff, and administration clerks appointed.

Previous incumbents either resigned, retired, or transferred to other hospitals on promotion.

Kekana said filling the vacancies will ensure the provision of necessary skills in line with the service delivery imperatives of the hospital.

The HJH has experienced increased pressure after the closure of Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, due to the fire that broke out in April.

Over 300 Charlotte Maxeke Hospital staff were reallocated to HJH to help attend to patients in various areas such as the casualty areas, ICU, medical wards and theatre among others.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health in Gauteng is forging ahead with plans to fill five vacant hospital chief executive posts at various healthcare facilities in the province.
