The Gauteng Provincial Government is formulating policies to address issues affecting men in the workplace. This mandate will be led by a body that the province will introduce for its employees.
This was announced at the Men's Symposium in Birchwood Hotel, Boksburg on Friday, which was organised by the GPG under the theme, "Positive male role models."
Speaking during the event, Deputy Director-General in the Office of the Premier, Dr Darion Barclay urged men employed by GPG to lead by examples in their families.
"If there is ill-treatment in the family, when kids are there, soon they think its okay the way the father treats the family," said Barclay before urging men to be more responsible.
"Can we take collective responsibility as the GPG men and lead as examples," he added
The symposium also covered issues such as HIV/AIDS and men's sexual health in the workplace, signs and symptoms of prostate cancer, male reproductive health challenges, mental health and suicide prevention, substance abuse.
Addressing the men on the male reproductive health challenges, a Urologist at the Department of Health, Dr Gerald Mataruka encouraged men to normalise doing exercises to improve their cardiovascular.
"Engage yourself in something two to three times a week, that raises your heart rate it can be walking in brisk walking, it can be jogging, playing soccer, even if it is cycling," said Matakura.
