MEC Maile handed over houses and title deeds in Emfuleni

Department of Human Settlements 2021/10/12 - 22:00

Gauteng Government through the deployment of various MEC's dedicated the entire week mainly focusing on service delivery issues in Sedibeng District Municipality in general and Emfuleni Local Municipality in particular.

MEC Maile's first stop, accompanied by Emfuleni's MMC for Human Settlements Cllr. Edwin Kele, was at Sebokeng Extension 28, where he handed over four hundred housing units benefitting 357 deserving beneficiaries. The housing project was officially launched in 2015/6. It forms part of the Gauteng government's Human Settlements integrated strategy to resolve the historical sins of Apartheid's spatial planning and building of settlements closer to economic centers. The Extension 28 project is estimated to yield 3870 units after completion.

According to MEC Maile "we are not a government of promises, but a government that delivers, drawing from our electoral commitments and deliberate efforts to improve the lives of our people".

Gauteng Government has been working hard to address the massive housing backlog permeated by Gauteng being an economic hub and destination of choice for a better quality of life, accompanied by growing reality necessitated by in-migration and high urbanisation.

MEC Maile also emphasised National and Provincial Government's efforts to speedily resolve service delivery challenges, such as waste spillage, electricity, potholes and water shortages experienced mostly by residents of Emfuleni.

"We cannot postpone service delivery nor should we be defocused on our tasks because there are elections coming. We have a duty to bring services to communities" said MEC Maile

Later in the day, MEC visited Evaton North to roll out Title Deeds to restore the dignity of our people. He also issued out 866 Title Deeds to beneficiaries. "To our beneficiaries today and those who have received their title deeds, this is a lifetime gift from the people of Gauteng; cherish it and hand it over to your children and your grandchildren. Resist all the temptations of selling your house", concluded MEC Maile.
