DID A-Team Trained on iDEP to Drive Efficient Infrastructure Delivery
By Tiisetso Ngoedi
Today, the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID) conducted the Infrastructure Delivery Platform (iDEP) training sessions for our A-Team members, including Works Inspectors, Control Works Inspectors, Chief Works Inspectors, and Chief Artisans. These sessions were held at Westhoven and Tshwane Maintenance Hubs, aiming to equip participants with the skills and tools needed to effectively integrate project data, streamline delivery processes, and enforce real-time accountability throughout the entire infrastructure lifecycle.
At the Westhoven Hub, the training was facilitated by IRPS: Systems Specialist, Jonathan Morulane, who delivered practical demonstrations and live walkthroughs of the iDEP platform. Using real project examples, he guided the A-Team on the system's features and tracking reporting tools, while encouraging peer discussions to enhance understanding and collaboration. This practical training empowered the A-Team to confidently understand and actively apply iDEP in their daily tasks.
The A-Team is a specialised, multi-disciplinary task team within the DID, established to accelerate service delivery, enhance project execution and drive strategic turnaround initiatives. Comprising skilled professionals from infrastructure delivery, planning, maintenance and professional services the A-Team is mandated to respond swiftly to priority projects, unblock delays and provide technical oversight where needed.
Validated construction data submitted via the iDEP enables executive leadership to track progress, manage risks across all Infrastructure Delivery Management System (IDMS) stages and make evidence-based decisions to unlock bottlenecks. Weekly submissions of project updates and evidence, including images are now mandatory through the PoE mobile app. Manual reporting will no longer be accepted.
The iDEP platform has already been rolled out to Internal Project Managers (IPMs) and Chief Project Managers (CPMs), who are now actively managing projects through the system. The onboarding process has since expanded to include all external Professional Service Providers (PSPs), contractors, and client departments. These stakeholders have been trained to navigate the platform, input accurate data, report in real-time, and adhere to digital infrastructure delivery standards. Weekly training sessions are conducted every Friday from 09:00 to 12:00 at Lutsinga Infrastructure House.
