As women, we sacrifice our lives to save the already broken marriages and the conditions just get worse.
This was said by Ms Grietta Skhosana, a 57-year-old gender based violence survivor, when giving her agonizing testimony during a Gauteng Department of Social Development Gender Based Violence event at Sokhulumi Community Project Centre in
Bronkhorstspruit, last Friday.
She said the abuse of women has gotten even worse these days, "Many years ago, we were just being smacked by our husbands but today women are being torched and killed every day by their loved ones. As women, we need to speak-up so that this abuse can stop".
Skhosana said the abuse at the hands of her husband stopped after she involved her maiden family and her condition improved for the better. She further encouraged women to speak-out against women abuse.
Captain Zulu from the Bronkhospruit Police Station announced that earlier on the same day, (29/11/2019) a man was arrested for murdering his wife and mother and the police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the case. This occurred when the country was observing the 16 Days of No Violence Against Women and Children.
He said, "We encourage women to report cases of abuse before it is too late as this may prevent further femicide. As the local SAPS office, we have a Victims Support Office and we also work with Mali Martin Shelter for Abuse Women that we refer victims to for further assistance".
