Department of Social Development 2019/08/04 - 22:00

Last Friday, Itereleng Residential Care Facility for the Disabled (RCFD) in partnership with Oppie Bol Foundation kick-started the Disability Friday Music and Arts Festival as a build-up towards annual Disability Day in December.

Itereleng RCFD is a Gauteng Department of Social Development facility for persons with disabilities, with capacity to accommodate 100 pesons between the ages 18 to 60 situated in Garankuwa, North of Tshwane.

Encouraging aspiring partakers, Head of Institution Nkele Mathibe told the team to utilize their rights as persons with disabilities to enjoy and learn from each other on this program. She further told them to take the program serious as these disability Fridays are a build-up towards a big day in December.

Cazle Hendricks from Oppie Bol Foundation said, "A while ago, our foundation identified a need for a platform to be created for persons with disabilities to converge and have programs to celebrate disability more frequently. This we do to discourage loneliness and boost participation in different activities".

City of Tshwane's Member of the Mayoral Committee Councillor Sakkie Du Plooy said, "This is a special day for me as Itereleng is close to my heart. Over the years, I have learnt that one can be disabled overnight and may require permanent assistance. Enjoy this day, know that you have our support as the city".

Participants in the two categories, music and arts were All Saints, Benny Podima, Faithful Singers, Dineo Disa, Garankuwa Requesters, Matsidiso Pokane, Itereleng Choir, Dara Marakalla to mention a few.
