On Monday, the Emmasdal Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC) staff and caregivers celebrated Mandela day at the Phelang Service centre for Older Persons with 65 pensioners in Ratanda.
According to the department's Social Work Supervisor, Lindiwe Lebjane, the Phelang service centre was chosen because it is a service centre from a disadvantaged community. “It was a good day for our oldies to get this rare opportunity to be spoiled and pampered through massage, cutting of nails, haircuts and goodies”, Lebjane said. She added it was a wonderful occasion to be part of and to see elderly people having their time to enjoy themselves, especially on the important day of remembering one of their peers Tata Madiba. The golden oldies were excited about the opportunity, and they expressed their gratitude since they are not used to being pampered. One elderly Gogo Majola said they are so grateful for Emmasdal CYCC to have chosen them amongst all other organizations around Lesedi Local Municipality. She said she will forever cherish this moment because is something that they don’t usually get as elderly people. “We are also human, and we need this kind of service”, she said. After they were all pampered other oldies entertained the people in attendance with music and dance as a form of expressing their gratitude.
