Infrastructure Development HoD Mutlaneng monitors major refurbishment of Transoranje LSEN School in Tshwane

Gauteng Provincial Government's programme to refurbish and modernise education infrastructure in communities was seen in action when the HoD for the Department of Infrastructure Development Ms. Masabata Mutlaneng conducted a follow-up project site visit at the newly refurbished Transoranje School for Learners with Educational Special Needs (LSEN) in Tshwane, on the 30 of March 2023. The Transoranje LSEN is a mega school with learning and accommodation facilities catering for primary and secondary school learners.
HoD Mutlaneng was accompanied by School Governing Body Member Mr. Metse Mashaka, the Principal Ms Leira Delport, and the project team who were completing final works before handover to the Gauteng Department of Education.
The project manager Mr. Samuel Dipela said the scope of works consists of building and external works, refurbishments, mechanical installations and electrical works, and new works including new guardhouse, new pump room, new generator room, kids play area.
"The project requirements are to restore the facility in accordance with the requirements from the Provincial Heritage Resources Authority Gauteng (PHRAG) and upgrade the facility to comply with building standards and legislation. This project features several green features including optimised fenestration, improved thermal insulation, improved air leakage, energy saving lighting, solar water heating, gas heating systems and landscaping".
The Project Manager and the contractor briefed the HoD on progress around various sections of the site. The project provided skills through employment of the EPWP participants.
Following a site walkabout, HoD Mutlaneng was very pleased with the work done since their last visit. "I am pleased with the good work that our department has done in rescuing an old, dilapidated facility and refurbishing to high quality infrastructure standards. DID is the implementing agent of GPG with a mandate to create a conducive learning environment."
The Principal and the School Governing Body both thanked the Department of Infrastructure Development for delivering a beautifully upgraded and refurbished school. The completed facility will be handed over to the Gauteng Department of Education.
