​38-year -old Charlotte Sebe is a Care Worker who is taking care of babies and toddlers at Walter Sisulu Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC) in Noordgesig, Johannesburg.
Sebe joined the Gauteng Department of Social Development as an intern with Human Resource qualifications.

As a result of love that Sebe has for children she decided to accept the position of Care Worker where they take care of abandoned babies and those removed from their abusive parents.

Despite having two children of her own Sebe says she love babies wholeheartedly because they are innocent and the only thing they need is love.

“I understand that people are going through a lot, and they end up neglecting their own children, however we are blessed since our government has a solution in those challenges,” says Sebe.

“Some of us are giving all our time to make sure that the babies are well taken care off, healthy, well fed and get enough rest and making sure that I bond with them” she says.

“All the babies when they arrive in the center we keep them in isolation before they are taken to the clinic. Then nurses who are in charge who are also stationed at the center will make sure that the baby is checked before joining others. Some of them arrive in a very bad state where you can even ask yourself many questions,” she says.

Sebe says she feels sad when the baby that she has already bonded with has to be moved but due to the work they do, she has to accept the situation.

Sebe is so passionate about children that she plans to continue to look after them even after she retires. Her immediate aim is to work towards becoming a manager in the next five years.

She says “I believe that these days one needs to do what one enjoys most. Iam a Human Resource graduate but today I’m taking care of babies and earning a salary and I can even start my center and employ people. Therefore, I would like to encourage people to follow what they enjoy most”.
