Mayor, government officials spend 67 minutes of their time supporting charitable cause in honour of Madiba

Department of Social Development 2022/07/24 - 22:00

As part of the 67 minutes of doing a good deed in honour of South Africa’s founding democratic President, Nelson Mandela, who would have turned 104 this year, the Gauteng Department of Social Development officials together with Sedibeng District Municipality, Mayor Lerato Maloka dedicated their time by donating stationeries for children at Bophelong prototype, cleaning the facility, and removing dumping site next to the centre.

Speaking during the donation of books to children Mayor Maloka said they chose to visit the ECD Centre on this day because they know former president Mandela loved children and believed that it is only through education that we can break the shackles of poverty.

“We are excited to spend our 67 minutes of community services here in this facility with the young ones. We also want to teach them how to write”, added mayor Maloka.

Social work manager Michael Marubini led a group of officials to clean the facility and remove the dumping site. He also highlighted that other officials from the region were in other the places doing their bit to help those in need as they were all committed to honour Tata Madiba’s legacy.

“Everyone is doing their bit, we are all over the region, some are cleaning Evaton prototype and others are cleaning and painting at our regional offices, and we are happy to see such a commitment to the cause, we wish it could happen every day”, said Marubini.
