In celebration of Mother's Day, members of South African Police Service (SAPS) showered mothers and their new-borns at KwaThema Community Healthcare Centre with gifts including warm winter clothes.

Operational Manager for mother and child department, Sr Thembi Mgidi said they are grateful for this wonderful gesture and it will really assist as most mothers who give birth at this centre are from disadvantaged backgrounds and need support.

"These gifts will in the meantime relieve pressure on health workers who often have to make a plan to clothe babies.  They will also minimise the cases of post-natal depression which can be caused by stress of not having all the required necessities for a new born baby," said Sr Ngidi.

Communication Officer for KwaThema SAPS, Sergeant Media Khoza said: "We must be grateful for the income that we receive during these trying times and not forget those who are in need. The little we can do as public servants will go a long way to alleviate the stress from the vulnerable."

One of the mothers, Nombulelo Mokoena said: "We are very grateful to the police officers for the baby clothes.  We did not have time to buy all the necessities because of the lockdown so these will come in handy."
