MEC Mamabolo Launches DID Turnaround Strategy to Accelerate Infrastructure Delivery in Gauteng
By Prudence Motsila
The 7th of August 2025 marked a milestone for the people of Gauteng as the MEC for Infrastructure Development and CoGTA, Jacob Mamabolo, officially launched the Department of Infrastructure Development's (DID) Turnaround Strategy. This bold initiative is designed to transform, restore, and accelerate infrastructure delivery in the province while rebuilding public trust in the department.
"This is a major step towards ensuring faster, ethical, and cost-efficient infrastructure delivery to Gauteng communities," MEC Mamabolo said.
As part of Premier Panyaza Lesufi's strategic realignment, the integration of DID, CoGTA, and the Gauteng Infrastructure Financing Agency (GIFA) is expected to strengthen collaboration and ensure that social infrastructure is delivered on time and within budget.
The Turnaround Strategy outlines key priorities:
• Improving the quality of infrastructure.
• Ensuring delivery within agreed timeframes.
• Upholding ethical standards in all projects.
• Strengthening client feedback processes.
• Meeting annual performance targets.
• Maximising cost efficiency and effectiveness.
"Our goal is to ensure timely payment to all who help us deliver infrastructure, so that projects can be completed on time. We must spend efficiently, effectively, and account for every cent. We need to deliver quality infrastructure and strive to exceed the expectations of our client departments," MEC Mamabolo emphasised.
At the heart of the strategy is the Project Readiness Matrix (PRM) Ecosystem, which consists of five pillars for monitoring infrastructure delivery: Infrastructure Delivery Platform, Infrastructure Government Lab, Rescue Contractors, Multi-Disciplinary Infrastructure A-Team, Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) and Stakeholder Management
During the launch, MEC Mamabolo demonstrated the Infrastructure Delivery Platform (iDEP), a smart technology system designed to enhance transparency and improve accountability. The platform acts as a centralised hub for all DID-managed projects across the Gauteng Provincial Government, making it easier to track progress and identify delays.
"Through the iDEP, we can monitor project delays and improve completion rates for infrastructure across the province," MEC Mamabolo concluded.
The Turnaround Strategy signals a renewed commitment to delivering infrastructure that meets the highest standards, on time and within budget, building a foundation for a stronger and better-served Gauteng.
