The Gauteng Provincial Government has converted the Transnet School of Rail and Eskom Training Centre into quarantine sites, which will house people who are unable to quarantine and isolate at home.

The sites which have been operational since last month form part of the provincial government's preparations for a possible increase in the number of COVID-19 cases with the winter season fast approaching.

"We have an onsite team present 24 hours a day including clinical staff at both sites.  Food which is approved by a dietician and meets the dietary requirements of the people under investigation (PIU) is served three times a day at both sites," said MEC Bandile Masuku.

MEC Masuku also noted that the only cost the provincial government is paying towards the use of both facilities is towards food, staff, additional security and waste management.

As of Wednesday 6 May Gauteng had 1720 COVID-19 confirmed cases, 1036 recoveries and 15 deaths.
