Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, has reaffirmed the province's commitment to completing two major road infrastructure projects within budget and on schedule. She was conducting oversight visits to the P122/1 Road (R57) in Tshwane and the K101 Road in Midrand, City of Johannesburg on Wednesday, 13 August 2025.

The visit forms part of the Department's ongoing programme to track and monitor construction progress, ensuring that work is delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

Road projects are also central to the province's broader strategy to boos economic growth, create jobs, and improve road safety.

The K101 Road project is currently 88% complete and involves the construction of a 5.4 km dual carriageway from road D795 in Midrand to the N1 at Brakfontein Road, along with three new bridges.

Design changes were made to better accommodation traffic from Thembisa and Ivory Park and to include an additional bridge – adjustments that required additional budget. Completion is expected within the next few months.

The P122/1 road rehabilitation project, launched in 2024, is at 66.32% complete and is scheduled for completion by February 2026. The work includes constructing the existing road, repairing sinkholes, building paved shoulders, installing cross-drainage and stormwater systems, and upgrading intersections.

MEC Diale-Tlabela highlighted that qualified contractors were appointed to undertake these projects. She added that the Department has urged them to ramp up operations ahead of the rainy season.

She has also appealed to motorists for patience during this period and expressed gratitude for the role the projects are playing in creating employment, supporting local SMMEs, and procuring goods and services from local communities.

"These projects are a key part of Gauteng's strategy to enhance road infrastructure and stimulate economic growth," she said.
