The Gauteng Provincial Government has cautioned residents that although the National State of Disaster has been lifted, people are still at risk of contracting Corona Virus.

"The coronavirus is still in our midst, and everybody remains at risk of contracting the virus. Let us each take more individual responsibility for protecting our health and the health of others," Gauteng Provincial Government on Friday.

This follows the announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa, that the National State of Disaster has been lifted in the country.

The pandemic will now be managed in terms of other legislation together with the regulations currently being contemplated in terms of the National Health Act.

Statistics show that unvaccinated individuals and persons with pre-existing conditions such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, chronic lung conditions, and asthma amongst others remain at a higher risk.

Forty-six percent (46 %) of Gauteng population received one dose of Pfizer while 37 percent are fully vaccinated.

"This means there are many residents that are yet to get vaccinated. All those who are yet to be vaccinated are encouraged to get vaccinated ahead of the Easter weekend," Gauteng Provincial Government.

The provincial government also announced that there is a low uptake of vaccine among youth between the ages 12-34.

All young people aged 12 and older are urged to go to their nearest vaccination site to get vaccinated without any further delay so that they can be protected.
