Gauteng provincial government has urged residents in the province to continue adhering to non-pharmaceutical interventions even after vaccination.

According to health experts around the world, wearing masks and social distancing helps to reduce the chances of being exposed to COVID-19 or spreading it to others.

Therefore, the best way to reduce community transmission of the coronavirus is vaccination and adherence to non-pharmaceutical interventions.

According to World Health Organisation (WHO), vaccinated individual may develop antibodies that can neutralise the virus and break the chain of transmission. This leads to the development of herd immunity once the significant population is vaccinated and has circulating antibodies for the same.

People can still be infected with COVID-19 even after getting vaccinated.  The vaccine will boost your immune system to prevent severe illness, hospitalisation and death in the event you contract COVID-19.

Like all other vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines do not provide 100% protection, even though they are effective.

Meanwhile, Gauteng government encourages the public to get information about the COVID-19 vaccine and the pandemic from credible sources such as government websites, bona fide news outlets, or medical practitioners and not rely on fake news shared on social media outlets.
