Limitless Talent on Display at Sedibeng Disability Eisteddfod

​Last Friday, 06 June 2025, the Gauteng Department of Social Development, in partnership with Emfuleni Local Municipality and Deaf South Africa (DEAFSA), hosted a vibrant Disability eisteddfod talent show at the Civic Theatre Banquet Hall in Vereeniging. The event shone a spotlight on the artistic talents of Persons with Disabilities from across the Southern Corridor.


The talent show, held annually, aims to celebrate creativity, and promote the rights and dignity of Persons with Disabilities. Participants showcased their skills in poetry, drama, music, and other art forms, creating a space for expression, empowerment, and community pride.


This year’s showcase drew approximately 150 participants from various organisations, each bringing energy and passion to the stage. After a day of inspiring performances, Botho Bocha Training Centre emerged as the overall winner, unanimously selected by the judging panel.


In his opening address, Community Development Manager Wandile Zibi praised the participating organisations for embracing the platform and highlighted the deeper purpose behind the initiative.


“This programme is for you, ”Zibi said. “It is designed to ensure that no one is left behind by promoting disability rights, showcasing talent, and increasing access to opportunities.”


Lucky Lekgai, a performer from Botho BochaTraining Centre, expressed his excitement: “I’m happy that we were better than everyone. Now our focus is on the provincial talent show, we’re ready to win again.”


Bafana Madonsela, manager of the Bophelong Multi-Disability Centre, applauded the initiative: “We’re grateful that our children are given a platform to perform ,interact, and grow. It’s a powerful way to support their development and potential.”


All participants will receive certificates, while the winning group will go on to represent the region at the upcoming Provincial Disability Eisteddfod talent show.
