MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela conducted an oversight visit to the Road K46 (Winnie Mandela Drive) rehabilitation project in Diepsloot, in the Fourways area, north of the City of Johannesburg.

The visit took place on Friday, 01 March 2024. The road project is expected to improve traffic flow between the N1 and N14 in the north– south direction, contributing to a more efficient and safer transport network in the region.

Construction is a partnership between the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport and Steyn City (Developer Partner), with Slim B&D Construction (PTY) Ltd the main contractor. To date, a portion of the road from the Rose Road Interchange into Steyn City development has been open to traffic with practical completion of major works expected to be completed in April 2024.

This will be dependent on the contractor getting approval from Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to commence with twenty-four hour shifts. The contractor has already commenced with work on weekends and during public holidays to catch up on lost time and complete the project.

Work commenced on the first week of March on access roads, namely View and Mnandi Roads.

In terms of contract participation goals, hundred and eighty-three (183) labourers are currently on-site putting finishing touches to the upgraded route.

The contractor has also facilitated the training of local small and emerging enterprises on various aspects of road construction.
