Department of Social Development 2019/11/13 - 22:00

Parents of children from former Ninnie's Neuron's Nursery were angry when the case of 40-year-old Nellie Senwametsi was postponed again by the Oberholzer Magistrate Court.

The case of Senwametsi who was caught on camera viciously beating toddlers was postponed to 26 November.

The Oberholzer Magistrate Court packed with parents and supporters, dressed up in T-shirts written "No excuse for child abuse".

One of the parents who asked to remain anonymous to protect the identity of her child said the child is no longer attending the counselling session due to what is happening in court.

"The Social Worker responsible says she has a huge number of children who needs to be prepared for court appearance" she says.

The trial of Senwametsi who is facing a charge of assault of children at Ninnie's Neuron's Nursery is expected to resume soon after her defense collected all the evidence, this is according to the state prosecutor

Investigations by Gauteng Social Development can reveal that the Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD) was operating illegally and it was immediately shut down.

A woman outside the court who asked to remain anonymously said the court should also consider the woman who recorded the video for her to be prosecuted.

The state prosecutor said the case is not at the trial stage yet because the defense asked more time to gather information.

According to media reports the videos of the gruesome assaults were recorded last year, they only came to light this year and led to an uproar. As soon as they were circulated on social media, parents rushed to the creche to remove their child.
