Strengthening partnerships - Department, UP to collaborate on road, transport projects

​As part of the Department's commitment to strengthening the provincial road infrastructure system, Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure MEC Jacob Mamabolo had a fruitful engagement with the University of Pretoria's (UP) Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (EBIT).

The MEC and his management team visited the institution's Faculty on Thursday, 27 January 2022.

Both parties have agreed to collaborate on various transport and road projects, critically in the following areas:

  • Road pavements management;
  • Road pavement material testing and laboratory services;
  • Training in the minibus taxi industry; and the  
  • Deployment of technology to improve operations of the industry.

The University's Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology focuses its research, teaching and learning activities on bringing competitive knowledge to industry, education, and society. It is highly ranked globally; with its programmes accredited by statutory and professional bodies at both national and international levels.
