Premier Lesufi announces new MECs - 03 July 2024

In a significant move to fulfil the aspirations of the Gauteng populace, Premier Panyaza Lesufi announced the reconstitution of the 7th Administration of the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU).

The announcement came during an evening event attended by Judge Lebohang Modiba, Director General Edward Mosuwe, and various dignitaries.

Premier Lesufi emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among political parties, reflecting the electorate's mandate for a collaborative provincial government.

"We must be mature and sober at all times," Lesufi said, advocating openness, transparency, compromise, and communication as the new administration's guiding principles.

The premier reiterated commitments made during his acceptance speech, stressing the need to work together for a better Gauteng. He assured that no one would be left behind, inviting all political parties to participate in the GPU.

Highlighting the urgent need to address crime, corruption, and lawlessness, Lesufi outlined a straightforward mandate: enhance safety, improve municipal performance, and revitalize key areas such as Johannesburg CBD, Alexandra Township, and various informal settlements.

Lesufi also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing Members of the Executive Council (MECs) and welcomed new legislative leaders, including Speaker Morakana Mosupye and Deputy Speaker Refiloe Ntshekhe.

Lesufi announced the Executive Council appointments, which were subsequently sworn

in as follows:

1. Bonginkosi Dlamini - MEC for E-Government, focusing on modernizing government operations through innovation and technology.

2. Lebogang Maile - MEC for Finance and Economic Development, tasked with steering provincial finances and accelerating economic growth.

3. Matome Chiloane - MEC for Education and Skills Development, leading Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation.

4. Nomantu Nkomo Ralehoko - MEC for Health and Wellness oversees the eHealth Programme and promotes healthy lifestyles.

5. Kedibone Diale-Tlabela - MEC for Roads and Transport, with a significant project to accelerate the speed train between Limpopo and Gauteng.

6. Tasneem Motara - MEC for Human Settlements, focusing on the modernization of urban areas and CBDs.

7. Faith Mazibuko - MEC for Social Development, aiming to repair relationships with NGOs and support vulnerable populations.

8. Vuyiswa Ramokgopa - MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, responsible for food security and urban hunger initiatives.

9. Jacob Mamabolo - MEC for Infrastructure Development and Cooperative Governance, tasked with job creation and supporting local governments and traditional leaders and

10. Sheila Mary Peters- MEC for Environment, addressing environmental challenges and climate change.

Premier Lesufi concluded by committing to building a better Gauteng that is attractive to families, investors, workers, youth, and students while ensuring safety and prosperity for all residents.
