​Last Friday, it was a big day for some of the department's officials as their efforts and acts of service were recognized at the annual Long Service Awards, hosted at the Birchwood Hotel.
The awards were given to people who dedicated 10, 20, 30, or 40 years of their lives in the department by providing public service to their communities. Addressing employees during the ceremony, Gauteng Social Development MEC Morakane Mosupyoe, thanked them for the selflessness that they have shown to the department.

She said that even though they have been in the department for a number of years, they should still have the tenacious spirit that they started of with. “We need to still teach the youth that come after us. We need to welcome and guide them along their way, while still being open to any new ideas that they may have”.

There was excitement when the Head of Department, Thembeni Mhlongo and the Corporate Services, Deputy Director Director General, Amanda Hartmann invited the awardees to the stage. They wished them well and encouraged them to keep up the good work.
