Social Development and City of Joburg Take Services to Communities

​On Wednesday, 02 July 2025, the Gauteng Department of Social Development (GDSD), in partnership with the City of Johannesburg (COJ), hosted a Service Delivery Blitz/Open Day aimed at bringing government services closer to residents.


Explaining the purpose of the event, Central Corridor Stakeholder Relations Officer Tokisi Manamela said: “This service delivery blitz is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to take essential services closer to communities.”


Manamela further highlighted the importance of raising awareness, especially among young people, about the dangers of substance abuse.


Several Departments participated in the event, including the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, which encouraged community members to join safety structures such as Community Police Forums (CPF),Patrollers, the Youth Crime Prevention Desk, and Men and Women as Safety Promoters.


In addition, the Department’s Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) brigades conducted household visits to educate residents and identify cases requiring intervention and support.
