Department of Social Development 2024/11/15 - 22:00
On Wednesday, 13 November 2024, the Gauteng Department of Social Development (GDSD) delivered crucial services straight to the residents of Ivory Park Extension 3 at Malatjie Park.
By executing a coordinated service blitz, the Department and its collaborators offered focused help to at-risk populations, such as children residing and working on the streets, families, the homeless, substance users, and people attempting to access government social work services. This method is in harmony with the department's vision to eliminate obstacles to social assistance and to tackle the specific difficulties encountered by residents in their neighborhoods. At the event, 65-year-old local resident Mavis Sechele conveyed her appreciation upon discovering that the son of her deceased neighbor would receive help from GDSD social workers to access a rehabilitation facility.Looking back on his difficulties, she remarked, “Since the passing of his mother four years prior, he faced tough times, battling with job issues and ultimately succumbing to drug addiction. Although he is not present today, I trust he will seize this chance to transform his life”.In addition to the department, other state departments like Health and SAPS were present to assist the public. They collaborated with Community Policing Forums (CPFs) and Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) focusing on substance abuse assistance, skills enhancement, and elder care. These collaborations provide thorough assistance for community members, presenting avenues for rehabilitation, skill development, and safety resources. This project is a component of the Gauteng Government’s continuous attempts to provide social services in areas of greatest need, promoting resilience and empowerment throughout the province.
