COVID19 - Gauteng, AngloGold Ashanti in partnership to flatten curve in public transport

Department of Roads and Transport 2020/03/30 - 22:00

The Gauteng Provincial Government is partnering with AngloGold Ashanti to provide water tanks in various taxi ranks in Hammanskraal – City of Tshwane - as part of efforts to flatten the coronavirus (COVID-19) curve.

A donation by AngloGold Ashanti, the water tanks will be handed over to identified priority taxi ranks in the province by MEC Jacob Mamabolo. This forms part of improving hygiene in combatting the spread of the virus in public transport nodes.

AngloGold Ashanti is the third-largest gold mining company in the world, measured by production.

The Department of Roads and Transport is continuing to monitor and support various rank facilities with essential materials to ensure commuters are sanitized and minibus taxis disinfected.

Working with various municipalities’ transport departments as well as public transport operators, the Department is set to continue ensuring that critical and essential services workers are provided with transport whilst complying with regulations as pronounced by the Minister of Transport.
