Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, has conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Gauteng Traffic Police officer, Poppy Moaka.

The 40-year-old female biker officer died on Tuesday in a fatal accident on the R566 Rossyln Road, while escorting a bus carrying COVID-19 vaccines to Tshwane.

According to the preliminary report, two other vehicles were also involved in the fatal accident, including a police vehicle. Police investigations into the fatal crash have started.

Mazibuko said the province has been robbed of a selfless and dedicated Traffic officer.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of one of the most diligent and dedicated officers within the Gauteng Traffic Police. Officer Moaka will be remembered as a heroine who died in the line of duty, ensuring that the people of Gauteng get the vaccine essential in saving lives during this COVID-19 pandemic," said Mazibuko.

The Gauteng Department of Community Safety will, through Ikhaya Lethemba Victim Empowerment, provide psycho-social support to the family of the officer.

"As the Gauteng Provincial Government, we convey our heartfelt condolences to officer Moake's family, friends and colleagues," Mazibuko added.
