To curb the billing crisis that is stressing customers, the City of Johannesburg has implemented the comprehensive city-wide meter audit for both water and electricity services specifically for residential estates and complexes. The programme will be implemented from January 2025 to December 2025.
Residents can now breathe a sigh of relief after having dealt with incorrect billing issues, non-corresponding meter numbers and other municipal meter reading inaccuracies for years.
City's Group Finance's Director for Communications and Stakeholder Engagement, Kgamanyane Maphologela said the programme formed part of the CoJ's commitment to ensure that the audit would contribute to improved service delivery and accurate utility management for all residents.
"The City requests full cooperation from estate and complex residents during the meter audit process.
"The City is confident that the successful completion of the meter audit will assist in resolving many of the queries arising from meter reading," said Maphologela.
He urged residents to grant access to City officials who often struggle to gain access to complexes and estates to obtain accurate meter readings, adding that: "Accurate meter readings are crucial to produce the municipal statement."
CoJ has appointed Omnitell Tech to conduct the meter audits for estates and complexes across the City and will operate during standard business hours from 08:00-17:00.
To verify the authenticity of the audit team or raise any queries, customers can call the City's Call Centre on 0860 562874 or sent an email to meteraudit@joburg.org.za
