Gauteng gov to develop five new precincts

?The Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development, Jacob Mamabolo on Wednesday that the Gauteng Provincial Government has identified potential locations to develop five precincts across the province. MEC Mamabolo announced this during the Post State of the Province Address briefing of the economic cluster at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, that the potential locations identified for developments include Lillian Ngoyi Hospital, the excess land from the Sandown High School, an area next to the Vaal Dam, an area around the Emoyeni Conference Centre and the Roodeplaat Dam.We will conduct detailed investigations on land ownership studies and potential land use opportunities over the next few months before approaching client departments to utilise the available land for their own service delivery requirements,” MEC Mamabolo said. He added that the department will be restructured to ensure that the maintenance function is appropriately placed and resourced to meet the demands that will be placed on it by the implementation of a property development prevention maintenance plan. We have also established a highly skilled Maintenance Crack Team to swiftly respond to matters relating to maintenance of prioritised health facilities in the Gauteng City Region,” added MEC Mamabolo. The department also announced that a pilot project, Orlando Clinic has been completed and new facilities will be identified for maintenance in the new financial year, based on the analysis of the key learning from the pilot project they completed at Orlando Clinic. Furthermore, MEC Mamabolo announced that the department is managing close to 421 infrastructure projects, worth around R4 billion, for client departments that include Agriculture and Rural Development, Social Development and Roads and Transport. In each of the projects,the department said that employment and training opportunities through EPWP are given to youth, women and people with disabilities, as well as military veterans, in order to provide valuable temporary work and training to the people of Gauteng. The department will also implement a rooftop Solar PV project in the 2016/17 financial year which seeks to roll-out solar panels which is initially for 16 health facilities, as well as the roll-out of solar panels at school in school facilities.
