Gauteng, has to date, administered a total of 4 765 385 COVID-19 vaccines with more than 2 million people fully vaccinated.

The Department of Health said the numbers were boosted by the Vooma Vaccination Weekend.

Vooma Vaccination Weekends aim to mobilise citizens and people living in South Africa to get vaccinated as a means to fight the COVID-19 pandemic ahead of the festive season.

A total of 353 819 people seized this opportunity to get vaccinated across the country.

Health MEC, Nomathemba Mokgethi has applauded the vaccination teams and the various partners in the public and private sectors, including non-governmental organisations, for embracing the vaccination program as a national responsibility.

The vaccination process has been simplified to make it easier for all eligible people to get the jab at various sites such as mobile pop-up sites, taxi ranks, pharmacies, and workplaces.

As part of expanding access to vaccination, the Gauteng Provincial Government calls on employers and any institution that would like their employees to get the jab to forward their requests to popupsite@gauteng.gov.za or call the Gauteng Hotline on 0800 22 88 27.

Government urges all adults to get vaccinated at any vaccination site and they all allow walk-ins.

"Vaccination will help us return to the things we love such as attending sporting, cultural, religious and entertainment events of our choice safely."

According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, Gauteng has maintained a steady decrease in new COVID-19 cases with just over 80 infections recorded on Monday.
