Department hosts Public Service Women Management Week

Department of Social Development 2021/08/29 - 22:00

The Gauteng Department of Social Development under Gender Youth and Disability Mainstream commemorated Webinar Public Service Women Management Week (PSWMW) under the theme:  “Economic Justice: from Poverty to Generational wealth for women, the year of Charlotte Maxeke: COVID-19 and the GBVF pandemic”

This year the PSWMW was graced by Dr Gustaaf G. Wolvaardt of Foundation for Professional Development (FPD) who presented on COVID – 19: working from Home Fatigue and Mental Health.

During this week the Heads of Department are required to arrange meetings with Senior Managers in their respective Departments and assess progress made in the implementation of the Head of Department’s 8 Principle Action Plan for Promoting Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality within the Public Service workplace.

It is a platform for Senior Managers to account and heighten their understanding of the Departmental Gender Action Plan implementation obligations against the HOD’s 8 Principle Action Plan mandate.

This year it takes place under unprecedented conditions resulting from the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has underlined and exacerbated the continued deprivation and inequality faced by women and girls due to the added burden of unacceptable levels of Gender based Violence.

Directors from various departments were invited to present on issues such as procurement, victim empowerment, budgeting, and planning, gender-based violence and provision of assistive devices.

This platform provides a space for female senior managers to account and heighten their understanding of the Departmental Action Plan implementation obligations against the HOD’s 8 Principle Action Plan. The expected outcome includes the creation of an all-encompassing environment in which senior managers share ideas, concerns, achievements successes, and barriers to intensify gender transformation in the workplace.
