​The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) acknowledges that a healthy learning environment is a prerequisite for the provision of quality education, and that learners have a fundamental right to learn in a safe, supportive environment and be treated with respect. 
The Department has hosted several engagements to address the social ills that are plaguing our schools. 
The round Table is within the chain of engagements with a focused purpose on finding mechanisms for school stakeholdersto proactively identify and address such challenges. A healthy environment is one which isfree from bullying, drugs, weapons, where everyone cares about the welfare and safety of the other.
