​National Water week is celebrated annually in the month of March to raise on the importance of water, one of South Africa's most limited resources. The theme for 2020 is "Water and Climate Change – Accelerating Action" with a focus on innovation, science and actions needed to tackle one of the greatest threats to our planet and our very existence. It is an awareness week campaign by the Department of Water and Sanitation. It serves as a powerful campaign mechanism re-iterating the value of water, the need for sustainable management of this scarce resource and the role water plays in eradicating poverty and under-development in South Africa.
