As the Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) continues to roll out new infrastructure and capacitate health facilities with modernised equipment, the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital (DGMAH) in Ga-Rankuwa has become a flagship site for transformation in public healthcare delivery. The hospital on Wednesday, 09 April, unveiled several cutting-edge diagnostic machines, including an MRI scanner, CT scanner, and a Cath lab machine, supported by the installation of new ICU beds in the refurbished Trauma Intensive Care Unit. These investments are set to improve the hospital’s capacity to provide fast, accurate diagnoses and lifesaving interventions, reducing waiting times and improving patient outcomes. The infrastructure upgrades also include the refurbishment of Ward 14, Ward 29, Ward 9, the Antenatal Care (ANC) Clinic, the Female Mental Health Unit, and the Trauma ICU. These improvements are designed to provide a more patient-centred experience while creating a better working environment for healthcare professionals. The CEO of the Hospital, Dr Godfrey Mbara said that the refurbished wards are not the end of it as there are more refurbishments that are being undertaken across the facility, including new equipment such as the laundry machines to ensure that the facility is self-sufficient.
