MEC Motara conduct site visit at Mapenane Secondary School

As preparations are underway for the State of the Province Address, set to take place on 25 February 2020, Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development and Property Management Tasneem Motara paid a special visit to assess progress made on the rehabilitation of Mapenane Secondary School.
The Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development as a custodian client to Gauteng Department of Education, is responsible for restoration and repairs works to Mapenane Secondary School, as this is an example of maintenance and extension of functional lifespan improvement and provision of better learning facilitates by the government to the community of Ga-Rankuwa.
The project is billed to be executed within an 18 month period having started in 01 March 2019, it is set for its completion in 31 August 2020.
The on-going project is restorative and repairs of the existing classrooms and construction of a new admin block, two new classrooms, science laboratory, library, nutrition block, guard house, refuse yard and two toilets.
Since the commencement of the project, three blocks have been completed, this includes, Block B- newly built Classrooms, Block J- rebuilt classrooms and Block K repairs.
Amid project challenges, the progress update of the project is upon completion, with majority of blocks being painted, roof installed, door installation and bathroom tiling.
As a contributor to job creation and skills transfer in the implementation and execution of infrastructure projects, the project has opened doors to the young and old in terms of work opportunities, a total number of 36 EPWP participants and nine local subcontractors were deployed.
Fundamentally, the project assisted in the intensification of the battle against poverty, unemployment and inequality.
