Sub-Programme: Services to Persons with Disabilities

1. Purpose
To provide integrated and developmental programmes, services, and facilities to promote the wellbeing and protection of older persons including support to welfare facilities in partnership with stakeholders and civil society.

2. Levels of Services
Prevention, Early intervention, statutory and Residential /alternative care/reintegration

​2.1 Social Work Services to Older Persons

Objective:

  • ​Design and implement integrated services for the care , support and protection to older Persons

2.1.1. Prevention

Objective​:

  • ​To promote and maintain optimal independent and active living.

Types of Services

  • Education, awareness and advocacy programmes e.g. Celebration of National and International days
  • Programme promoting active living e.g. life skills & life orientation
  • Recreation and Sports programmes
  • Volunteer programme

Outcome

  • ​Persons with Disabilities feel physically, emotionally and socially safe
  • The well being, rights of persons with disabilities of persons with disabilities is promoted
  • People with disabilities are valued as members of the society.


2.1.2. Early Intervention

Objective:

  • To render integrated, developmental and therapeutic services to ensure mainstreaming and independent living of persons with disabilities.

Types of Services

  • ​Therapeutic services
  • Income generating projects/economic empowerment
  • Community mental health programmes
  • Facilitation of the establishment and support of assisted living projects, and protective workshops/activity centres for Persons with Disabilities.
  • Support groups
  • Protection services e.g. against abuse, neglect and exploitation.
