Ms Nandi Mayathula-Khoza 

Current Position
Nandi Mayathula-Khoza is MEC for Social Development following her appointment by Premier David Makhura.  
Personal Information
Ms Mayathula-Khoza was born on the 24th January 1962, in Senaoane, Soweto.
  • She is married with four children.
  • She has one older sister & one younger brother.​
Previous Positions
Ms Mayathula-Khoza is a Science, Maths & Geography educator by profession who taught at Uwezo College in Johannesburg (1987 – 1989)
  • She worked as a writer of educational material for UNISA & Khanya College students (1989 – 1990)
  • She also worked as a community development facilitator for an NGO called Community Based Education Program and was promoted to become it's Managing Director (1991 – 1997).
  • She has been an active member of the ANC since 1980’s to date.
Political Participation
Due to her political and Community Activism; Ms Mayathula-Khoza was deployed as
  • The " 1st Speaker"  of Joburg council;
  • The Local Government Councillor in 1994;
  • The 2nd Women Democratically elected Mayor of Soweto in 1997;
  • Council Speaker of the City of Joburg Metro Council  in 2000;
  • Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community development in 2006;
  • MEC for Agriculture, Rural and Social Development including Environment in 2009 and is currently an MEC for Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development;
  • MEC for Infrastructure Development from 01 June 2014 – 04 February 2016; an
  • Currently MEC for Social Development since March 2016.​
Ms Mayathula-Khoza holds;
  •  A Bachelor of Science Degree and a Diploma in Education from the University of Swaziland (1987)
  • A Bachelor of Education from the University of Witwatersrand (1991).
  • A Certificate on Development Management and Facilitation from the University of Witwatersrand (1998).
  • A Certificate on Democracy and Local Governance from the Sweden International Development Cooperation Agency (2003).
  • A Certificate in Municipal Management Development Program from the University of Pretoria and ANC Political School (2004).
  • She has passed all theory work on the Master's Degree in Public Development and Management and is due to complete her dissertation.

Key responsibilities​
​Mayathula-Khoza is a member of the ANC & ANCWL Provincial Executive Committee member 
  • She is an honorary board member of the Valued Citizens NGO which teaches Learners how to become responsible citizens with good moral value.
  • She is currently deployed by the Gauteng Premier to convene and strengthen links with the Senior Citizens, People with Disability and Faith Based Sectors Leadership,  on behalf of Gauteng Government.
  • She remains passionate about Education and Socio-economic empowerment of youth and women.
