The much anticipated 3rd annual Gauteng Township Entrepreneurship Awards (TEA) are back after a successful event that took place on 8 April 2017 at Carnival City, in the City of Ekurhuleni, which saw the visionary and legendary Dr Sam Motsuenyane, a self-made entrepreneur receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Township Entrepreneur Awards (TEA) were conceptualised to revitalise the Gauteng City Region's township economy. The awards are aimed at providing a unique platform for Gauteng township entrepreneurs to market themselves, be celebrated and be rewarded.

The Awards are also aimed at building and cementing confidence in township businesses. Equally important is to comprehend the impact the awards will have in changing negative perceptions about township based businesses as well as encourage and inspire township entrepreneurs to realise the conceivable economic gains for communities within which they operate.​


Entry Criteria 

- South African citizen with a valid ID
- Gauteng based township businesses (business that is registered and operating within the Gauteng 
        province townships)
- Business compliance: CIPC registration, Tax clearance certificate
- Where applicable industry/sector compliance documents i.e. Health and Safety, CIDB, NHBRC, public 
        liability will have to be produced during judges business assessment visit
- Business or Cooperative must have been operational for a minimum of 24 months by 31 October 2017
- Provide financial statements, management accounts, business or personal bank statements for the past 
        24-month period
- Business must be in one of the industrial sectors defined in the awards categories
- Have an annual turnover not exceeding R2 Million​
