Invest SA Gauteng (formerly The Gauteng Investment Centre) is South Africa's first One-Stop Shop (OSS) for international investors and established local businesses where essential government information and services can be accessed from a single platform. The centre coordinates business to business match making engagements between local and foreign businesses.

The Gauteng Department of Economic Development, through its agency, the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA) is tasked with facilitating direct and indirect investments in the province.  The Gauteng Growth and Development Agency is responsible for business enablement, capital projects, trade and investment promotion whilst promoting, enhanced economic competitiveness. The agency is also tasked with the creation of an enabling environment for business growth. The functions of the GGDA include:

  • Project Appraisal: Working with our development finance (DFI) partners to assess a case for proceeding with a project or proposal
  • Site Identification and Evaluation: Undertaking the co-ordination, pre-planning and evaluation of sites for our clients and post-investment site visits
  • Sector Economic Data Provision: Providing and disseminating market intelligence on sectoral and regional economic data
  • Business Permits (with the DTI): Assisting with company registrations and work permits
  • Incentives: Facilitating access to national and local government incentives
  • Facilitating local & foreign business retention, expansion and after-care services
  • Inward and Outward Investment Promotion Missions: Hosting and coordinating inbound foreign and local business delegations and undertaking outbound missions to promote Gauteng as a premier investment destination.

Tourism is among the key eleven sectors identified as growth driver as township tourism is our game-changer in tandem with community tourism whose intention is to mobilize youth to take interest in oral history of their communities so as to accrue the benefits associated with township tourism. Thus the township tourism program focusses on the provision of a wide range, world-class customer focused and vibrant visitor experience.

The Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA), an agency of the Gauteng Department of Economic Development is responsible for developing, promoting, coordinating and facilitating responsible and sustainable tourism in the Gauteng global city region. The agency is also tasked with creating a world-class destination that attracts business visitors and all other tourists to the province, benefits our people, and contributes to job creation and economic growth.

The Entity's strategic goals are to create and promote a world-class tourist destination; contribute towards tourism sector industry development; facilitate industry coordination and cooperative governance; foster a responsible and sustainable tourism industry; and implement progressive corporate governance practices.
