The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs works to effectively support, monitor, and promote developmental municipalities and viable institutions of Traditional leadership. It furth​er promotes integrated service delivery that seeks to enable Gauteng to become a globally competitive city region.
 
Vision:  Sustainable and viable local government, traditional councils and communities in Gauteng.
Mission: Coordinate the effective functioning of local government; promote integrated development planning and deepen participatory democracy in order to accelerate service delivery.
